Lenvima 10 mg

Lenvima 10 mg

Lenvima 10 mg contains Lenvatinib, a potent oral multikinase inhibitor.
It is primarily used to treat several types of advanced cancers, especially when they are no longer responsive to standard treatments.
By targeting multiple signalling pathways that drive tumour growth and new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), Lenvima helps slow or stop the progression of certain difficult-to-treat cancers. Its oral capsule form allows patients to take treatment conveniently at home, under oncologist supervision.

Mechanism of Action

Lenvatinib works by inhibiting multiple receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) that are key to tumour cell proliferation and angiogenesis.

  • It blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR1, VEGFR2, VEGFR3), which are critical for forming new blood vessels that supply the tumour.

  • Also inhibits fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR1-4), platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRα), as well as RET and KIT proto-oncogenes.

By blocking these signalling pathways, Lenvatinib:

  • Starves the tumour of nutrients and oxygen by preventing new blood vessel formation.

  • Directly interferes with tumour cell growth and survival.

    Uses / Indications

Lenvima is approved for use in:

    • Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) that is radioactive iodine-refractory, meaning it no longer responds to traditional iodine treatments.

    • Advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in combination with pembrolizumab or everolimus, after progression on other treatments.

    • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of liver cancer, especially when surgery isn’t an option.

    • Endometrial carcinoma (a type of uterine cancer) in certain advanced or recurrent cases, combined with pembrolizumab.

      Adverse Effects

Because Lenvatinib impacts multiple growth pathways, it can cause a range of side effects that require careful monitoring.

      Common side effects include:

      • Hypertension (high blood pressure): very common, often requiring additional medication.

      • Fatigue, muscle weakness.

      • Diarrhoea, loss of appetite, nausea, weight loss.

      • Protein in urine (proteinuria), needing regular urine checks.

      • Hand-foot syndrome: redness, swelling, or pain on palms and soles.
