Lenva 4mg

Lenva 4mg

Lenva 4 mg contains Lenvatinib, a powerful oral multikinase inhibitor used to treat several types of advanced cancers.
It works by blocking multiple pathways that cancer cells use to grow and that tumours rely on to build new blood vessels.
Taken as a capsule, Lenva allows patients to receive continuous anti-cancer treatment at home, under close supervision by their oncology team.

Mechanism of Action

Lenvatinib acts by inhibiting multiple receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) involved in both tumour growth and the formation of blood vessels (angiogenesis) that feed the tumour.
Key targets include:

  • VEGFR1, VEGFR2, VEGFR3: receptors critical for new blood vessel development.

  • FGFR1-4 (fibroblast growth factor receptors): involved in cell proliferation and survival.

  • PDGFRα, RET, and KIT: linked to tumour growth and metastasis.

By blocking these pathways, Lenvatinib:

  • Slows or stops tumour cell growth, and

  • Cuts off the tumour’s blood supply, starving it of oxygen and nutrients.

    Uses / Indications

Lenva is used to treat several serious cancers, particularly when they are advanced or have come back after other treatments. It is indicated in:

    • Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) that is radioactive iodine-refractory (no longer responds to iodine treatment).

    • Advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), often in combination with pembrolizumab or everolimus.

    • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of liver cancer, when surgery is not possible.

      Adverse Effects

Lenvatinib can cause a range of side effects, many of which stem from its strong action on blood vessels and cancer growth pathways. These require careful monitoring.

      Common side effects include:

      • High blood pressure (hypertension) — very common, often requiring medicines to control.

      • Fatigue and weakness.

      • Diarrhoea, nausea, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

      • Protein in the urine (proteinuria) — monitored through periodic urine tests.

      • Hand-foot skin reaction (redness, swelling, peeling on palms and soles).
