BD Letro 2.5 mg

BD Letro 2.5 mg

BD Letro 2.5 mg contains Letrozole, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in women after menopause.
It works by reducing the body’s estrogen levels, which helps slow or stop the growth of estrogen-dependent cancer cells. Letrozole is taken orally once daily and is considered a cornerstone of hormonal (endocrine) therapy in certain types of breast cancer.

BD Letro is especially effective in postmenopausal women, where estrogen production is largely dependent on the aromatase enzyme.

Mechanism of Action

Letrozole selectively inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which plays a key role in the production of estrogens by converting androgens (male hormones) into estrogens.

  • In postmenopausal women, estrogen is no longer produced by the ovaries but is still synthesized in fat and other tissues through aromatase.

  • Letrozole blocks this conversion, reducing estrogen levels significantly.

  • Since many breast cancer cells rely on estrogen to grow, lowering estrogen levels starves the tumor cells, slowing their progression or shrinking them.

    Uses / Indications

BD Letro (Letrozole 2.5 mg) is approved for:

    1. Early breast cancer – hormone receptor-positive, in postmenopausal women after surgery (adjuvant therapy).

    2. Advanced or metastatic breast cancer – when cancer has spread beyond the breast and is still hormone-sensitive.

    3. Extended adjuvant therapy – to continue after completing 5 years of tamoxifen therapy.

    4. Fertility treatmentsoff-label use in certain women with ovulation disorders like PCOS, where letrozole is used to stimulate ovulation.
