BD Brut 140 mg contains Ibrutinib, a potent Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor used in the treatment of several types of blood cancers, primarily those involving B-lymphocytes.
It is a targeted oral therapy that has revolutionized the management of conditions like chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) by offering a less toxic and more convenient alternative to conventional chemotherapy.
Taken once daily, BD Brut offers sustained disease control in many patients, especially those who are elderly or unfit for intensive therapy.
Mechanism of Action
Ibrutinib irreversibly binds to and inhibits BTK, a key enzyme in the B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling pathway.
-
BTK is critical for the activation, survival, and proliferation of B-cells.
-
In certain blood cancers, these B-cells become malignant and grow uncontrollably.
-
By blocking BTK, ibrutinib disrupts cancer cell signaling, leading to reduced survival, migration, and proliferation of abnormal B-cells.
-
This action causes cancerous B-cells to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death) or become more vulnerable to immune clearance.
Uses / Indications
BD Brut (Ibrutinib 140 mg) is approved or used for the treatment of:
-
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) – with or without 17p deletion.
-
Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) – especially in patients who have relapsed after initial treatment.
-
Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia (WM)
-
Marginal Zone Lymphoma (MZL) – in patients who have received prior therapy.
-
Chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease (cGVHD) – when other treatments have failed.
Adverse Effects
While ibrutinib is generally better tolerated than chemotherapy, it is not free of risks and requires regular monitoring.
Common side effects:
-
Diarrhea
-
Fatigue
-
Muscle and joint pain
-
Nausea
-
Rashes
-
Cough or mild infections
Serious or long-term risks:
-
Bleeding complications – due to platelet function inhibition; caution advised if on blood thinners.
-
Atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) – ECG monitoring may be required in at-risk patients.
-
Hypertension (high blood pressure) – can develop or worsen over time.
-
Infections – increased susceptibility to pneumonia or fungal infections, especially in immunocompromised individuals.
-
Cytopenias – such as neutropenia or thrombocytopenia; regular blood count monitoring is essential.
