Each tablet of Cellcept contains 500 milligrams of mycophenolate mofetil and is taken orally under the guidance of a transplant specialist. It plays a critical role in helping the body accept a new kidney, heart, or liver by calming down the immune response.

Mechanism of Action

Mycophenolate mofetil is converted in the body to its active form called mycophenolic acid. This substance works by blocking an enzyme that is essential for the production of DNA in white blood cells, especially the type called lymphocytes. These cells are primarily responsible for initiating organ rejection after transplantation. By selectively reducing the activity of these immune cells, Cellcept helps prevent the body from attacking the transplanted organ while maintaining some level of immune protection.

Uses

Cellcept is prescribed mainly for the prevention of organ rejection in:
