By reducing the size of the prostate over time, Dutanol helps improve urine flow and may reduce the need for surgical intervention.

Mechanism of Action

Dutasteride works by blocking the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a male hormone that plays a key role in the growth of the prostate. When DHT levels are reduced, the prostate shrinks, relieving pressure on the urethra and easing symptoms such as frequent urination, difficulty starting urination, and weak urine stream.

Unlike some similar medications, dutasteride blocks both type 1 and type 2 forms of the enzyme, making it more effective in lowering DHT levels in the body.

Uses

Dutanol 0.5 mg is primarily used for:

• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH):
  To reduce the risk of urinary retention and the need for prostate surgery
  To improve symptoms like difficulty urinating, incomplete bladder emptying, and frequent night-time urination

It may also be prescribed in combination with other drugs such as tamsulosin for enhanced symptom relief.
