Capsy 500 mg

Capsy 500 mg

Capsy 500 mg contains capecitabine, an oral chemotherapy medicine used to treat several types of cancer, most notably breast and colorectal cancers. It is designed to offer the convenience of oral treatment while still delivering potent anti-cancer effects. Capecitabine is considered a prodrug, meaning it becomes active only after being processed inside the body. This targeted activation helps reduce damage to healthy cells compared to traditional chemotherapy.

Mechanism of Action

Capecitabine is converted inside the body into 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a well-known chemotherapeutic agent. The activation primarily occurs in tumour tissues, where specific enzymes convert it into its active form. Once converted, 5-FU interferes with DNA synthesis by blocking the action of an enzyme called thymidylate synthase. This interruption prevents cancer cells from multiplying and leads to their eventual death.

This targeted mechanism makes capecitabine both effective and better tolerated than some older chemotherapy agents.
