Cacit 500 mg contains capecitabine, an oral chemotherapy medication widely used in the treatment of certain types of cancer. Capecitabine is a prodrug, meaning it becomes active only after being processed in the body. It offers patients the convenience of at-home administration without compromising therapeutic effectiveness. Cacit is often preferred in combination with other cancer treatments or when injectable chemotherapy is not suitable.
Mechanism of Action
Capecitabine is converted into 5-fluorouracil or 5-FU in the body. This active compound interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis by blocking the enzyme thymidylate synthase, which is essential for cell replication. Cancer cells, which multiply rapidly, are especially vulnerable to this interruption. The selective activation of capecitabine in tumour tissue helps target cancer cells more than normal cells, though side effects can still occur.
