Terifrac Solo contains teriparatide, a synthetic form of parathyroid hormone. It is used in the treatment of osteoporosis, particularly in individuals who are at high risk of fractures. Teriparatide helps to stimulate new bone formation, making it unique compared to other osteoporosis treatments that primarily focus on preventing bone loss. It is typically administered through a once-daily subcutaneous injection and is used for a limited duration, usually not exceeding two years.
Mechanism of Action
Teriparatide mimics the natural human parathyroid hormone. When administered in controlled daily doses, it activates osteoblasts, which are the cells responsible for building new bone. This contrasts with continuous high levels of parathyroid hormone, which may cause bone breakdown. By enhancing bone formation and improving bone architecture, teriparatide increases bone mineral density and bone strength, reducing the risk of fractures in patients with severe osteoporosis.
