Kemocarb contains carboplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy medication widely used in the treatment of various types of cancer. It is valued for its effectiveness and a comparatively milder side effect profile than its predecessor, cisplatin. Mechanism of Action
Carboplatin works by forming strong bonds with DNA inside cancer cells, disrupting their ability to replicate and repair. This DNA damage triggers programmed cell death, especially in rapidly dividing cancer cells. Its platinum core is key to its activity, making it effective across several tumour types.

Uses
Kemocarb is commonly used to treat ovarian cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancers, and certain types of brain tumours. It is also used in paediatric oncology and for patients unable to tolerate more aggressive platinum drugs. Depending on the cancer type and stage, it may be given alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents.

Adverse Effects
Like most chemotherapy drugs, carboplatin can cause a drop in blood cell counts, increasing the risk of infections, anaemia, and bleeding. Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and changes in kidney or liver function. Hearing changes and allergic reactions may occasionally occur. Most side effects are manageable with supportive care and close monitoring by the oncology team.
