Temcad 100 mg

Temcad 100 mg

Temcad contains temozolomide, an oral chemotherapy medicine primarily used in the treatment of brain cancers. It is especially effective in managing glioblastoma multiforme and anaplastic astrocytoma. Temozolomide is appreciated for its ease of administration and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, making it particularly suitable for brain tumours.

Mechanism of Action
Temozolomide belongs to the class of alkylating agents. Once inside the body, it is converted into a compound that adds methyl groups to the DNA of cancer cells. This methylation damages the DNA, interferes with cell division, and leads to cancer cell death. Its unique ability to reach the brain enhances its effectiveness in brain-related cancers.

Uses
Temcad is mainly prescribed for high-grade brain tumours such as glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma. It may be used as a standalone treatment or along with radiation therapy. In some cases, it is also continued as a maintenance therapy to prevent tumour recurrence after initial treatment.

Adverse Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, and hair thinning. It can lower blood cell counts, which may lead to an increased risk of infections, bleeding, or anaemia. Less frequently, patients may experience liver enzyme changes or allergic reactions. Regular monitoring and timely supportive care help manage these effects effectively.
