It is classified as an aromatase inhibitor and is typically prescribed after the failure of other hormone therapies such as tamoxifen. Exemestane helps to slow or stop the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors.

Mechanism of Action
Exemestane works by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme aromatase. Aromatase is responsible for converting androgens into estrogens in the body. Uses
Exesin is mainly used to treat:

• Early-stage hormone receptor positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women, especially after 2 to 3 years of tamoxifen therapy

• Advanced or metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease has progressed after initial tamoxifen therapy
