Tenolam

Tenolam

Tenoalm is a fixed-dose combination antiviral medicine used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection. It contains two active ingredients: lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Both drugs are well-known antiviral agents that work together to suppress the hepatitis B virus and help protect the liver from further damage. Tenoalm is taken once daily and is suitable for long-term use in adults and adolescents.

Mechanism of Action:
Tenoalm works by interfering with the ability of the hepatitis B virus to replicate:

  • Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It mimics the natural building blocks of viral DNA and gets inserted into the growing viral chain, causing early termination and stopping further replication.

  • Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It also blocks the reverse transcriptase enzyme by entering the viral DNA chain and preventing the virus from making new copies of itself.

    Uses:
    Tenoalm is used for:

    • The treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection in adults and adolescents aged twelve years and older.

    • It helps to suppress the virus, reduce liver inflammation, and prevent complications such as cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer.

      Adverse Effects:
Tenoalm is generally well tolerated, but as with any medication, some people may experience side effects. Common ones include:

      • Headache

      • Nausea

      • Diarrhea

      • Fatigue

      • Abdominal discomfort
