Fluarix Tetra

Fluarix Tetra

Fluarix Tetra is a quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine designed to protect against four different strains of the flu virus—two influenza A strains and two influenza B strains. It is given as an annual injection to help prevent seasonal influenza, which can lead to serious illness, especially in young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems or chronic health conditions.

Mechanism of Action:
Fluarix Tetra works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the influenza viruses included in the vaccine:

  • The vaccine contains inactivated (killed) fragments of the influenza virus.

  • These fragments cannot cause the flu, but they help the immune system recognize and respond more effectively if exposed to the actual virus.

  • After vaccination, the body produces protective antibodies, usually within two weeks.

  • These antibodies circulate in the blood and help neutralize the virus if a person is exposed later in the season.

    Uses:
    Fluarix Tetra is used to:

    • Prevent seasonal influenza in individuals from 6 months of age and older

    • Reduce the severity of flu symptoms and risk of complications in high-risk populations

    • Lower flu-related hospitalizations and deaths, especially in people with chronic diseases or weakened immunity

      Adverse Effects:
Most side effects of Fluarix Tetra are mild and temporary. Common side effects include:

      • Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site

      • Fever, tiredness, or muscle aches, especially within the first couple of days

      • Headache or general discomfort

      • Irritability or drowsiness in young children
