Benoquin Cream 20 mg

Benoquin Cream 20 mg

Benoquin Cream contains monobenzone, a skin-depigmenting agent used for the medical removal of skin pigmentation. It is prescribed in certain individuals with extensive vitiligo, where depigmentation of the remaining normal skin is desired to achieve a more uniform appearance. Benoquin is not a skin-lightening or cosmetic product; it is intended only for individuals who have already lost significant pigmentation due to vitiligo.

Mechanism of Action:
Monobenzone works by permanently destroying melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, which gives skin its color.

  • It causes irreversible depigmentation by affecting melanin synthesis and damaging melanocytes.

  • As the melanocytes are destroyed, melanin production is stopped, leading to a progressive loss of skin pigment in the treated areas.

  • Over time, with consistent application, it can help create an even skin tone in people with widespread vitiligo.

    Uses:
    Benoquin is used exclusively for:

    • Depigmentation therapy in people with extensive vitiligo (when pigment loss covers more than 50% of the body)

    • It is not used for cosmetic skin lightening or for treating small vitiligo patches

      Adverse Effects:
Monobenzone should be used cautiously under medical supervision. Some potential side effects include:

      • Redness, dryness, or irritation at the site of application

      • Burning or stinging sensation

      • Allergic reactions in rare cases, such as swelling or rash

      • Permanent and uneven depigmentation if applied incorrectly

      • Treated skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight and may burn more easily
