Mechanism of Action:

Amikacin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of the bacteria, preventing them from making essential proteins needed for their growth and survival. This action results in the death of the bacteria. It is effective against many gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive organisms.
