Gerta contains Ertapenem, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the carbapenem class. It is used to treat a variety of serious bacterial infections in the body. This medicine is typically reserved for moderate to severe infections, especially those caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics.
Mechanism of Action:
Ertapenem works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific proteins inside the bacteria called penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This blocks the bacteria’s ability to build its protective cell wall, leading to its death. Because of this mechanism, Ertapenem is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
