Actide 100 mcg contains Octreotide, a synthetic version of a natural hormone called somatostatin. It is used to treat conditions caused by the overproduction of certain hormones and substances in the body. Octreotide helps control symptoms such as severe diarrhoea and flushing in patients with certain tumors.

Mechanism of Action:

Octreotide mimics the action of somatostatin by inhibiting the release of several hormones and secretions in the body, including growth hormone, insulin, glucagon, serotonin, and certain gastrointestinal peptides. This helps reduce symptoms and slow disease progression in hormone-secreting tumors.

Uses:

Actide is commonly used for the management of:

• Acromegaly: to reduce growth hormone levels

• Carcinoid tumors and VIPomas: to relieve symptoms like diarrhoea and flushing

• Bleeding from oesophageal varices: especially in patients with liver cirrhosis

• Certain types of pancreatic and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors
