Zynesp 40 mcg

Zynesp 40 mcg

Zynesp contains Darbepoetin alfa, a long-acting synthetic version of erythropoietin. This medicine is used to treat anemia, particularly in people with chronic kidney disease or those undergoing chemotherapy. It helps the body produce more red blood cells and reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Mechanism of Action:

Darbepoetin alfa works by mimicking the natural hormone erythropoietin, which is produced in the kidneys. It stimulates the bone marrow to increase red blood cell production. Compared to earlier versions, it has a longer half-life, so it does not need to be given as frequently.

Uses:

Zynesp is mainly prescribed for:

  • Anemia due to chronic kidney disease in both dialysis and non-dialysis patients

  • Anemia caused by chemotherapy in certain cancer patients

  • Reducing dependence on blood transfusions

    Adverse Effects:

    Common side effects:

    • Headache

    • Fatigue

    • Swelling of legs or arms

    • Mild injection site reactions
