Clopidrill 75 mg is a brand of Clopidogrel, an antiplatelet medication commonly prescribed to prevent harmful blood clots in individuals at risk of cardiovascular events. It is often recommended for people who have experienced a heart attack, stroke, or have peripheral artery disease, and is frequently used along with aspirin after coronary stent placement.
Mechanism of Action
Clopidogrel is a prodrug that, once metabolized in the liver, irreversibly inhibits the P2Y₁₂ receptor on platelets. By blocking this receptor, it prevents platelets from changing shape, releasing chemicals, and clumping together—actions critical to clot formation. Its antiplatelet effect begins around two hours after a dose and persists for about five days.
Uses
Clopidrill 75 mg is used for:
-
Preventing heart attack and stroke in individuals with high cardiovascular risk or past events
-
Managing unstable angina and acute coronary syndromes
-
Protecting against clots in people with peripheral artery disease
-
Frequently used in dual antiplatelet therapy (with aspirin) after coronary stent placement to prevent thrombosis
Adverse Effects
Common side effects tend to be mild as your body adjusts:
-
Easy bruising, nosebleeds, or minor bleeding such as in the gums or urinary tract
-
Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, or stomach pain
Bleeding risks:
-
Major bleeding events such as gastrointestinal bleeding or hemorrhagic stroke can occur, but are relatively rare (major bleeding in around 3.7 % vs. placebo 2.7 % in trials)
-
A very rare but serious condition called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) may arise (< 4 cases per million treatments)
