Enapril 5 mg

Enapril 5 mg

Enapril  contains Enalapril, a medication belonging to the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and manage heart failure by helping relax and widen blood vessels, reducing the workload on the heart.

Mechanism of Action

Enalapril inhibits the ACE enzyme, which normally converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II—a powerful hormone that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. By blocking this enzyme, Enalapril helps blood vessels relax and widen, lowering blood pressure and easing the heart’s pumping effort.

Uses

Enapril  is used for:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Congestive heart failure, often to improve heart function and symptoms

  • Prevention of further cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke, especially in high-risk individuals

    Adverse Effects

    Common side effects may include:

    • Low blood pressure, leading to dizziness or light-headedness, especially after taking it

    • Some individuals report fatigue or mild weakness

    Less frequent but important effects:

    • Elevated liver enzymes or signs of liver injury (e.g., yellowing of the skin/eyes, loss of appetite); these may be rare but serious

    • Kidney-related issues, especially when Enalapril is taken with a diuretic; combined use may increase risk of kidney impairment or reduced urine output
