Dolutegravir-Lamivudine-Tablets

Dolutegravir-Lamivudine-Tablets

Dolutegravir-Lamivudine Tablets are a fixed-dose combination used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus, commonly known as HIV. This combination contains two antiretroviral medicines, dolutegravir and lamivudine, which work together to reduce the amount of virus in the body and strengthen the immune system. It is usually taken once daily and is often used as a complete regimen for people living with HIV, especially those who are beginning treatment or switching from another combination.

Mechanism of Action

Both dolutegravir and lamivudine act on different stages of the HIV replication cycle:

  • Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor. It blocks the HIV enzyme called integrase, which is needed for the virus to insert its genetic material into human DNA. This prevents the virus from multiplying inside the body’s cells.

  • Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It blocks the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which the virus needs to make copies of its genetic material. This stops the virus from replicating.
