Mofilet-S 360 mg

Mofilet-S 360 mg

Mofilet-S contains mycophenolate sodium as its active ingredient. It is an immunosuppressant medicine used to help prevent the rejection of organ transplants, especially kidney transplants. It works by calming down the immune system so that it does not attack the new organ. Mofilet-S is typically used along with other medicines like corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors to provide strong protection against organ rejection.

Mechanism of Action:
Mycophenolate sodium works by targeting and blocking an enzyme called inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase. This enzyme is crucial for the production of DNA in certain immune cells known as T and B lymphocytes. These cells are heavily involved in attacking what the body sees as foreign, such as a transplanted organ. By interfering with their ability to multiply and function, mycophenolate sodium reduces the strength of the immune response and helps the body accept the new organ.

Uses:
Mofilet-S is primarily prescribed for:

  • Preventing the rejection of kidney transplants

  • Sometimes used in heart or liver transplant patients when recommended by a doctor

  • Given as part of a combination treatment with other immunosuppressants

Adverse Effects:
While Mofilet-S is effective, it may cause side effects due to its action on the immune system. Common side effects include:

  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain

  • Low white blood cell count, which can increase the risk of infections

  • Headaches, dizziness, or difficulty sleeping

  • Increased risk of certain infections like respiratory or urinary tract infections

  • In rare cases, long-term use may slightly increase the risk of certain types of cancer, especially skin cancers and lymphomas
