Aceptor-S is a veterinary medication containing Benazepril hydrochloride, commonly prescribed to manage heart-related conditions and certain kidney disorders in dogs. It belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and is often used as part of long-term treatment in dogs with chronic heart failure, high blood pressure, or protein-losing kidney disease. It helps improve the quality of life and supports overall heart and kidney function.
Mechanism of Action:
Benazepril works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme, which is responsible for the production of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes blood vessels to constrict and leads to increased blood pressure and strain on the heart. By blocking its formation, Benazepril causes blood vessels to relax and widen. This helps reduce the workload on the heart and lowers blood pressure, while also helping to reduce protein loss in the urine in kidney disease
Uses:
In dogs, Aceptor-S is commonly used for:
-
Managing congestive heart failure, especially due to conditions like dilated cardiomyopathy or valvular disease
-
Treating chronic kidney disease, particularly when proteinuria (protein in the urine) is present
-
Lowering systemic blood pressure when needed
-
Supporting long-term management of heart and kidney function in elderly or high-risk dogs
Adverse Effects:
Most dogs tolerate Aceptor-S well, especially when introduced gradually and monitored appropriately. However, some potential side effects include:-
Loss of appetite or vomiting
-
Lethargy or weakness
-
Low blood pressure, which may cause fainting or weakness
-
Changes in kidney function or electrolyte levels
-
Rarely, allergic reactions such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing
