Cabgolin 0.5 mg

Cabgolin 0.5 mg

Cabgolin 0.5 mg contains Cabergoline, a dopamine receptor agonist. It is commonly prescribed to treat conditions related to high levels of the hormone prolactin, such as prolactin-secreting tumors or menstrual and fertility disorders caused by hyperprolactinemia.

Mechanism of Action
Cabergoline works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain, particularly the D2 receptors. Dopamine naturally inhibits the production of prolactin from the pituitary gland. By mimicking dopamine, Cabergoline reduces the release of prolactin, helping to restore hormonal balance and improve related symptoms.

Uses
Cabgolin 0.5 mg is used for:

  • Hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin levels), which can cause irregular periods, infertility, or milk production in non-lactating women

  • Treatment of prolactinomas (prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors)

  • Sometimes used in certain conditions like Parkinson’s disease as an off-label treatment

    Adverse Effects
Cabergoline is usually well tolerated, but some patients may experience:

    • Nausea, constipation, or abdominal discomfort

    • Dizziness, especially when standing up quickly

    • Fatigue, headache, or sleep disturbances

    • In rare cases, it may cause hallucinations, mood changes, or compulsive behaviors

    • Long-term use at high doses may be associated with heart valve issues, so periodic monitoring with echocardiography may be recommended
