Peggrafeel

Peggrafeel

Peggrafeel contains Pegfilgrastim, a long-acting form of filgrastim that helps the body produce more white blood cells. It is mainly used to reduce the risk of infections in patients undergoing chemotherapy, which often lowers the white blood cell count. Peggrafeel is a pegylated recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, commonly referred to as G-CSF.

Mechanism of Action:

Pegfilgrastim works by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infections. The pegylation (attachment of a polyethylene glycol molecule) allows the drug to stay in the body longer than filgrastim, enabling it to be given as a single injection per chemotherapy cycle.

Uses:

Peggrafeel is prescribed for:

  • Prevention of neutropenia (low white blood cell count) in patients receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy

  • Reducing the risk of febrile neutropenia, which is a serious condition involving both low neutrophils and fever

  • Supporting recovery of neutrophil counts after bone marrow transplantation, in some cases

    Adverse Effects:

    Common side effects:

    • Bone pain, especially in the lower back or pelvis

    • Headache

    • Fatigue

    • Pain at the injection site
