Mechanism of Action

Posaconazole in Posaone works by blocking the production of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. Without ergosterol, the cell membrane becomes weak and unstable, leading to the death of the fungal cell. This action helps control and clear invasive fungal infections. Posaconazole is effective against a wide range of fungi, including species that may be resistant to other antifungal medicines.

Uses

Posaone is used for:

• Prevention of invasive fungal infections in high-risk patients, such as those undergoing chemotherapy for blood cancers or stem cell transplants

• Treatment of invasive infections caused by Aspergillus and Candida species, especially when other antifungal treatments have failed or are not tolerated

• Management of infections caused by rare or resistant fungi in immunocompromised individuals
