Posarul 100 mg contains Posaconazole, a broad‑spectrum antifungal agent used to treat serious fungal infections. It is especially effective for severe, invasive fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, such as those undergoing chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, or affected by fungal bloodstream infections.

Mechanism of Action

Posaconazole works by damaging the cell membrane of fungi, thereby inhibiting their growth and ultimately killing the fungal cells. It does this by blocking the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, which is essential for ergosterol synthesis in the fungal membrane, leading to increased membrane permeability and cell death.

Uses

Posarul is prescribed for:

• Treatment of severe and invasive fungal infections (e.g., aspergillosis, candidiasis) in patients with weakened immunity .

• In some cases, used for severe mucocutaneous fungal infections such as stubborn dandruff or tenacious dermal candidiasis.

  Adverse Effects

  Most side effects are mild and tend to diminish as your body adjusts. Commonly reported effects include:

  • Headache, fatigue, itching or rash, drowsiness, insomnia, taste changes, weakness, paresthesia (tingling), and anorectal discomfort .

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, and fever.

  • Blood or metabolic changes including decreased potassium or magnesium levels, anemia, low white blood cell or platelet counts, electrolyte imbalance, elevated liver enzymes, increased glucose, hypotension or hypertension, swelling of legs, breathlessness, petechiae, and cough.
