It belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors and is commonly prescribed for acid reflux, gastric ulcers, and other conditions related to high acid levels in the stomach. Its ability to provide lasting relief from acidity-related symptoms has made it a mainstay in gastrointestinal treatment.

Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole works by blocking the enzyme in the stomach wall that produces acid. This enzyme, called the hydrogen-potassium ATPase or “proton pump,” is the final step in the acid secretion process.
