Pumazole

Pumazole

Pumazole contains omeprazole, a well-established medication used to reduce excess stomach acid. It belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors and is commonly prescribed for acid reflux, gastric ulcers, and other conditions related to high acid levels in the stomach. Its ability to provide lasting relief from acidity-related symptoms has made it a mainstay in gastrointestinal treatment.

Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole works by blocking the enzyme in the stomach wall that produces acid. This enzyme, called the hydrogen-potassium ATPase or “proton pump,” is the final step in the acid secretion process.

By inhibiting this pump, omeprazole significantly reduces acid production at the source. This allows ulcers to heal, prevents new ones from forming, and relieves symptoms such as heartburn, sour belching, and discomfort caused by acid irritation.

Uses
Pumazole is used to treat a range of digestive conditions:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Peptic ulcers, including those caused by Helicobacter pylori infection

  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid

  • Non-ulcer dyspepsia, or functional indigestion

  • Prevention of gastric damage from long-term NSAID use

    Adverse Effects
Pumazole is generally safe when taken at the recommended dose, but like all medications, it may cause some side effects.

    Common side effects include:

    • Headache

    • Nausea

    • Diarrhea or constipation

    • Abdominal pain

    • Flatulence

Occasional or long-term effects may include:

      • Low magnesium levels if taken for a long time

      • Increased risk of bone fractures in elderly patients

      • Vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use

      • Rebound acid secretion if the medication is stopped suddenly after long-term use

      • Rare allergic reactions such as rash or swelling
