Regonat 40 mg

Regonat 40 mg

Regonat contains the active ingredient Regorafenib, an oral targeted therapy used to treat certain advanced cancers. It belongs to a group of medicines known as multikinase inhibitors. Regonat is typically prescribed when standard treatments are no longer effective. It works by interfering with multiple pathways that cancer cells use to grow and spread, as well as by blocking the formation of blood vessels that supply the tumour. This medicine is most often used in patients with advanced colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and liver cancer.

Mechanism of Action
Regorafenib targets several enzymes known as kinases that are involved in the growth of cancer cells and the blood vessels that feed them. By blocking these enzymes, Regonat slows down tumour cell division and prevents the tumour from developing new blood vessels. Without this blood supply, cancer cells cannot grow efficiently and may shrink or stop spreading. Because Regorafenib acts on multiple signalling pathways at once, it has a broader range of action compared to treatments that focus on just one pathway.

Uses
Regonat is used for the treatment of:

  • Metastatic colorectal cancer in patients who have previously received other treatments such as chemotherapy and targeted therapy

  • Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) in patients who have not responded to earlier treatments like imatinib and sunitinib

  • Advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, which is the most common type of liver cancer, especially in patients previously treated with sorafenib

    Adverse Effects
Like all medications, Regonat may cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhoea, and hand-foot skin reactions such as redness, pain, or swelling on the palms or soles. High blood pressure, mouth sores, and voice changes may also occur.

Some patients may develop serious side effects such as liver problems, bleeding, or heart-related issues. Regular blood tests are recommended during treatment to monitor liver function and other vital parameters. Patients are advised to report symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual bruising, shortness of breath, or severe abdominal pain to their doctor immediately.
