Silectone 25 mg contains Spironolactone, a potassium‑sparing diuretic classified as an aldosterone antagonist. It promotes the removal of excess fluid and sodium from the body while conserving potassium. This makes it useful in conditions where fluid retention or low potassium are issues
Mechanism of Action
Spironolactone blocks aldosterone receptors in the kidneys, preventing sodium and water reabsorption and promoting their elimination via urine. At the same time, it reduces potassium loss, helping maintain potassium balance. By reducing fluid overload, it decreases blood volume and helps lower blood pressure
Uses
Silectone 25 mg is used for:
-
Managing hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when resistant to other treatments
-
Reducing edema (swelling) caused by heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disorders
-
Treating or preventing hypokalemia (low potassium levels) in cases where potassium loss is a concern
Adverse Effects
Common side effects may include:-
Dizziness, especially when standing up suddenly—due to fluid loss
-
Gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
-
Headache, drowsiness, or light‑headedness
-
Breast tenderness or enlargement in both males and females
-
Possible confusion or mental fog in sensitive individuals
-
Elevated creatinine levels indicating kidney function changes
