Teevir Tablet is a fixed-dose combination medication containing three antiretroviral agents: efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. It is primarily used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection in adults and adolescents. By combining three active ingredients into one pill, Teevir simplifies HIV therapy and helps improve adherence to treatment.

Mechanism of Action
Each component of Teevir plays a distinct role in stopping the virus from replicating:

• Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It binds directly to the reverse transcriptase enzyme of HIV and blocks its activity, preventing the virus from converting its RNA into DNA.

• Emtricitabine and Tenofovir are nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors. They act as faulty building blocks that get incorporated into the viral DNA chain during replication, causing premature chain termination.

  Uses
  Teevir is used for:

  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents who weigh at least 40 kilograms

  • It may be used as initial therapy in newly diagnosed patients or to replace a current HIV regimen in stable patients

  • Helps reduce the risk of HIV-related complications and improves quality of life when taken consistently

    Adverse Effects

    Common side effects include:

    • Dizziness, trouble sleeping, and vivid dreams (mainly due to efavirenz)

    • Headache

    • Nausea or diarrhoea

    • Skin rash
