It is especially known for its role in managing glioblastoma multiforme and anaplastic astrocytoma, which are aggressive forms of brain cancer. The medication is administered in capsule form, making it more convenient for outpatient care compared to traditional intravenous chemotherapy.

Mechanism of Action

Temozolomide works by interfering with the DNA of cancer cells. Once inside the body, it converts to its active form, MTIC (monomethyl triazeno imidazole carboxamide). This active metabolite adds a methyl group to the DNA of tumor cells, particularly at the O6 and N7 positions of guanine. This process leads to DNA damage and inhibits cell division, eventually causing the cancer cells to die.

• Newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme, in combination with radiotherapy and as maintenance therapy afterwards

• Recurrent or refractory anaplastic astrocytoma, especially in patients who have already received other forms of therapy
