Terbicip contains Terbinafine, an antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal infections affecting the skin, hair, and nails. It is available in both oral tablet and topical forms, and works effectively against dermatophytes, which are fungi responsible for conditions like ringworm, athlete’s foot, and fungal nail infections.
Mechanism of Action
Terbinafine works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is essential for fungal cell membrane synthesis. By disrupting the production of ergosterol (a key component of the fungal cell membrane), terbinafine causes cell membrane damage and leads to the death of the fungus. It has a fungicidal effect, meaning it kills the fungus rather than just stopping its growth.
Uses
Terbicip is used for treating:
-
Tinea infections like athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm
-
Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis)
-
Fungal infections of the scalp or body skin
-
In some cases, it may be prescribed for systemic fungal infections under medical supervision
Adverse Effects

Headache, stomach upset, or diarrhea

Taste disturbances, sometimes including loss of taste, especially with long-term oral use
-
Rash, itching, or skin irritation (especially with topical use)
