Xarelto 20 mg

Xarelto 20 mg

Xarelto is an oral anticoagulant medicine that contains rivaroxaban as its active ingredient. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots, which can lead to serious conditions like stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Unlike older blood thinners, Xarelto does not require frequent blood tests or dietary restrictions, making it a convenient option for long-term use in many patients at risk of clot-related problems.

Mechanism of Action:
Rivaroxaban works by directly blocking an important clotting protein in the blood called Factor Xa. This protein plays a key role in the blood clotting process. By inhibiting Factor Xa, Xarelto helps slow down the formation of blood clots while still allowing the body to maintain normal healing functions. This targeted action helps reduce the risk of harmful clots without thinning the blood excessively.

Uses:
Xarelto is commonly prescribed for:

  • Preventing stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation not caused by heart valve problems

  • Treating deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism

  • Preventing recurrence of blood clots after initial treatment

  • Reducing the risk of blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery

  • Lowering the risk of major heart-related events in people with chronic heart disease or peripheral artery disease

    Adverse Effects:
Xarelto is generally well tolerated, but like all blood thinners, it carries a risk of bleeding. Common side effects may include:

    • Easy bruising

    • Nosebleeds or bleeding gums

    • Prolonged bleeding from cuts or injuries

    • Tiredness or weakness if bleeding leads to low blood levels
